The Valley View Voice
Martian: Way Too Late
By A.
The director and producer of The Martian is Ridley Scott. He produced the movie along with Simon Kinberg, Mark Huffam and many others.
The actor who plays Mark Watney and is stranded on Mars is Matt Damon, his co-workers Jessica Chastain (Melissa Lewis) , Kate Mara (Beth Johanson), Kristen Wiig (Annie Montrose), and Michael Pena (Rick Martinez) leave him because they think he’s dead but turns out he is alive.
In The Martian Mark Watney has to survive. He has to survive 4 years with only 100 days of food so he has to create food on a planet that can't grow food so He has to create food by using his own feces. Watney then has to make it 200 miles to the next Mars landing so he can come back home.
In my opinion of The Martian I really liked it. It was one of the best films I have ever seen. I thought it was smart when his helmet broke and he had to duck tape it to save air. I also liked how it showed how he lost a lot of weight because he didn't have much food up there.
All in all, I thought it was a very good movie. I would recommend this to anyone who likes action and excitement.
Spring Musical
By Josefina Scozzari
This year, Valley View Middle School will be putting on Seussical the Musical as their Spring Musical, which will take place in the Edina Performing Arts Center on Thursday the 17th of March, Friday the 18th of March, and Saturday, the 19th of March at 7:00 P.M. There will also be a matinee show at 1:00 P.M. Every year, they put on a Spring Musical, and the cast, crew, and directors have worked very hard to make this musical a success, along with parent volunteers.
Seussical the Musical is the story of a young boy who thinks a Cat onto the stage who then imagines the Jungle of Nool, and becomes a young Who boy on a dust speck floating through the air. He tells the story of an elephant trying to save a town of Whos on a dust speck, a girl bird with a one-feathered tail, two sour Kangaroos, and a irresponsable bird with the biggest tail of all.
Travel through this fantastical world with the jungle animals and the citizens of Who, all a figment of this young boy’s imagination, and experience this wonderful adventure for yourself!

Peter and the Starcatcher
Reviewed by Macy M.
Edina High School Thespians had the honor of bringing us the Broadway play, Peter and the Starcatcher, and is directed by our own Anthony Matthes. This play staged the 21-23 of January. The Thespians are the first of three high schools in the nation to bring us this thrilling Disney adventure and presented it in the Edina Performing Arts Center stage.
Peter and the Starcatcher is the prequel to Peter Pan, telling the origins of the Lost Boys, Peter, played by Dylan Rickard, and his relationship with Molly, played by Abigail Swoap. The main villain is named Black Stashe, played by Ben Weiman. who is constantly coming on stage with witty pick up lines. The play is composed of 12 girls and 8 boys, who altogether never leave the stage at any time. The audience can see all the way to the back of the stage and the orchestra right in front. The cast works with what they have, moving benches and boxes to create ships, the illusion of flight, and even a giant alligator called Mr. Grin. The most exciting scene is called Hurricano where two ships crash into each other and everyone is struggling to hold onto pieces of the ship as they capsize. Then after intermission, the whole cast become mermaids and they are singing under the water. “This play is engaging, and you have to pay attention, sometimes you’re a fish, sometimes a boat, sometimes a boy,” Matthes says. He definitely doesn’t want you to sit back and relax. He wants you to sit up and pay attention to every small detail. This can prove challenging, especially in the beginning when there is so much movement, character introductions, and british accents, so it’s easy to become confused. Near the middle of the second act, the audience may be extremely confused when Molly starts speaking in Norse code, which is a bunch of confusing sounds.
All in all, I enjoyed the play tremendously and strongly recommend it. It is thrilling, engaging, and full of adventure, just like the novels which I also recommend. If you do not understand a specific concept of the play, for example the starcatchers, the book does a wonderful job of explaining everything in detail. The exciting part is watching how the actors make the flying, fairies, and magic come to life in the Thespian play Peter and the Starcatcher.

Maze Runner- The Scorch Trials
Review By: Fahima K.
The scorch trials, from the director was Wes Ball is the new follow up to Maze Runner, produced by Matty Bowen, Eddie Gamarra, Wyck Godfrey, Ellen Goldsmith-Vien, Lee Stollman. Once again Dylan O‘Brien plays Thomas, Kaya scodelario is Teresa, Thomas Brodie-Sangster as newt, and Patricia Clarkson as Ava Paige, but Rosa Slazar playing brenda, aidan gillen as janson and Jacob Lofland as Aris are new characters to the scorch trials.
In this sequel to the maze runner Thomas and the gladiators figure out that the maze was just the beginning. Life outside of the maze is very different for them and gets even harder when an outbreak of flare a disease (Flare turns people into crazed killers and destroys their brains). The gladiators have to survive another trial where they must cross the scorch which is filled with many flare victims and lots of dangerous obstacles. Thomas and the gladiators try to unlock the memories that they have about WICKED in attempt to understand why WICKED is doing all these experiments once and for all.
The Scorch Trials is not much like the first movie. There are many new characters. The maze runner was not very action packed and emotional until the end but in this movie it is way more emotional when they find out where Teresa was. When they finally get out of the glade and the movie has even more action.
In my opinion I loved this movie except in the beginning of the movie when they got out of the glade and were chased by a bunch of flare victims it got very intense and everything looked so real. Overall this movie was amazing. It wasn't much like the first movie it is pretty different and more action packed.
I really recommend this movie if you liked the movies Divergent and Insurgent but Ii do not recommend this movie to people who are under 11 years old because there are many zombies (Flare victims), and a lot of violence in this movie.
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Review by Lu Jacksprings
The directors and writers of Avengers Age of Ultron are Joss Whedon. and Stan Lee, the creator of Marvel. The main actors are, Robert Downey Jr (who was also Tony stark from Iron man), Chris Evert (who was also Steve Rogers in Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (who was also Bruce Banner in The Hulk), and the voice of ultron is James Spader.
Avengers Age of Ultron is about a robot that Tony Stark made. Ultron Is trying to take over the world and kill every living human being on the face of earth. He starts by trying to take out the Avengers. when ultron makes the city start to fly the Avengers travel to Socovia, with the intention of going after Ultron.
I thought it was really odd how Black Widow was dating the Hulk. I liked how it showed some of Black Widows past and I am glad that the director added Black Widows history. I think when Iron man saw Captain America's shield it was foreshadowing something in the next Captain America civil war. But I guess I have to wait for the next movie.
